Sweet and Sour Chicken

This budget friendly recipe allows you to enjoy sweet & sour chicken without the cost of take-out.

Ingredients

6 boneless chicken breasts
1 onion(s), diced
1 1/2 cup (375 mL) brown sugar
3/4 cups (175 mL) vinegar
3/4 cups (175 mL) water
1 tbsp (15 mL) mustard
1 cup (250 mL) ketchup
1 pinch salt
1 pinch pepper
3 tbsp (45 mL) cornstarch
1/2 cup (125 mL) cold water

Instructions

1 Combine all ingredients except cornstarch and water in a large casserole dish, place chicken in sauce.
2 Cover and bake for 1 hour at 350°F (175°C).
3 Mix cornstarch with 1/2 cup (125 mL) of cold water; thicken sauce with this when removed from oven.
4 Serve over a bed of rice and mixed vegetables.
